Found In A Book

Please excuse the blurry photos.
I hope you get the idea of my post in spite of my cantankerous camera.
This is one of the things I love about second hand books.
The bonus treasures found within.
The pressed rose and a maple leaf in an antique German Bible.
Not in an old book, but a friend thoughtfully placed these newspaper print hearts
when she gave me a Rachel Ashwell book as a gift.
A lovely, translucent day lily.
Found this just last week in a Victorian book of days,
at the thrift store.

Someone's personal notes left in a moldering book on world history.

In the same moldering history book I placed a butterfly to flatten.
If I remember to retrieve it for my project, great.
The book served my purpose.
But if I forget the butterfly,
well,
I will be pleasantly surprised with its discovery in the future;
or
someone else will be delighted by the hidden treasure.

This post convinces me that there is a definite pattern in the universe. I picked up three free dictionaries at the thrift store this week and the very first thing I do when I thrift books is flip through an gather the fun stuff out of them. THis week included a list of circuit breakers in a house and an article about Nixon's phlebitis.

have a great weekend.

Wonderful finds! I tend to find old lists of mine in my cookbooks and leave them there because they help tell the story of my life.

And how serendipitous to find the pressed flowers. Doesn't it make you wonder about the person who placed them there?

These are great finds. I found something in a magazine the other day: fall crocus. So frail and dry. What a surprise. I love finding notes that mean nothing to me but at one time, did to someone else.

I love to find old writings and dates in books as well. I have a few botany books that have pressed flowers in them that are a real treasure AND last week I flipped through one of my books that I was going to give away and found $5.00 tucked away in it! I think I still like the pressed plants more though!
