Signs That a Hard Winter is Coming to Missouri

The woolly worms (catterpillers) are wearing thick coats this fall and my husband (wearing hooded sweatshirt in photo) is building a fortification at his shop out of split fire wood. His best friend Robby helped (held the wood to be split) as our son looked on.

They figure they have enough wood to stoke the shop's furnace for a couple months.
May need to cut more wood later!
October's temperatures are already unseasonabley cold for Missouri.
Winter will be early this year!

Now that's a woodpile! Makes ours seem very small - but we just need it for ambiance in the evenings, and in case the power goes out.

I'm wondering too what this winter will be like.

Ha! We have ordered another truck load to be delivered, and it's spring here! That's a good job done.

Gorgeous wood, nothing like a wood fire to get really toasty warm to!

It got chilly here in VA too :)

anyone would think you're in Switzerland with that little lot, we have woodpile galore here. Same regarding the temperatures, just suddenly got soooo cold.

Yikes. Michigan is unseasonably cold, too. I'm going to St. Louis in November! Are you anywhere near there?

Okay, okay, don't laugh but we've already had two freeze warnings (and freezes) in Athens, GA, which is not common for mid-October.

That woodpile photo is great! I do love a fire in the hearth, ANY hearth. Just as long as I can sit by it in a big cosy chair and read or nap.

Stay warm!
