Christmas Past

I never thought I would see the day when I would get nostalgic at the sight of felt, metallic trim and sequins!
My local thrift store has a steady stream of it this year, and it's all beautifully done.
Lots of hand sewing that has survived a lot of Christmases.

My kids still use an advent calender I remember using as a kid. A felt tree with 24 felt and sequined ornaments. My mom had bought it at a church Christmas bizaar.
I won't part with the advent calendar, but all of these sequined treasures and trims are for sale in my etsy shop.

Don't forget the icicles for your tree!
You just can't buy this stuff at Target, Walmart or Lowe's.
It used to be sold at your local five and dime.
Deck the halls!

Don't you just love the packaging on those icicles? This post makes me feel all nostalgic - gorgeous bright, happy colours.

sweet step back in time and your advent calendar is oh so special!!!

we have some German tinsel/icicles that have weight to them and may actually contain a little lead which makes them hang beautifully...no longer sold at the German Gourmet here in the states...I put them on one by one and take them off each year...it is the crowning glory of our tree

I do love the vintage Christmas stuff..... I wonder what our grandchildren will be keeping in 60 years?

Love the top pic, my Grandmother had stuff like that but sadly it's all gone now, she also made those ball things out of old xmas cards, cut into round and glued together, you pay a fortune for them now.
As for 60 years, dunno... a glitter iphone? leave it to Linda...

Interesting -- I was thinking the same thing as we were putting up the tree this weekend. Somehow the glitzy balls that seemed a little "too" vintage in the past seemed just right!
