A Souper Snow Day Tea

Yesterday it snowed all day, but the school district made a wise decision (a rare occurrence) to cancel school while there was only an inch of snow on the ground, because the weather forecasters were predicting more. The kids were happy --and I was mostly happy (at least I didn't have to brave the roads to get them to and from school...)

So after I trudged the block to the post office to mail out some sold etsy items while the kids played outside with the dogs, I decided soup and sandwiches would be the perfect lunch. And since it was a special day, I pulled out my special soup and sandwich plates-- orphaned plates made to hold a cup (there is a circle indentation) that I pair ceramic cups with. This is when my teacups (or coffee cups back in the day, before mugs) hold soup.
That I also had tea (in separate cups!) goes without saying. I was on my second pot of black by 11:30am. You can't drink too much hot tea on a cold, snowy day!
Just canned chicken noodle soup, not home made, but when you have a pretty service, canned and instant taste just fine!
(PIE=Presentation Is Everything!)
I gave my kids most of the noodles, because I prefer the broth anyway.
This is one of my favorite plates because it is shaped like an artist's palette.
I just have the one like it.
It doesn't get pulled out often, but yesterday was a special day.
My Tea Tuesday posts seem to be more about re-purposing teacups than drinking tea, but hey, I am not a fancy tea drinker. I prefer black tea (with milk and a drop of honey) and how many times do you want to hear "Lipton" or "Twinings" mentioned?

I was out and about last week looking for a suitable teacup for pat's teacup swap and I saw lots of those snack plate and cup sets. I don't think I ever noticed those before .... I may just go back and pick up one or two .... The are really nifty :)

My kids have fingers crossed for a big snowstorm tonight .... And I am well stocked with chicken noodle soup!

Hope your day is sweet and fun wit snow and all that goes with it .... Unlike Elizabeth who is without power right now! Poor girl!

Looks like a lovely lunch! One of our favorite dinners is tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Happy Tuesday!

Soup and sandwich.... that is my favourite lunch on a cold day. Interesting to know kids get the day off school in Missouri when it snows too much and here in Australia kids get the day off school when the temperature is over 38 degrees or if we have a particularly high ( catastrophic ) fire danger warning. I love how the world consists of extreme contrasts. Enjoy your Tuesday Tea. xx

First, thanks for your sweet comments about my plight. I appreciate them. I didn't have frozen pipes yesterday after the heat came back on, but they are frozen today. Wind chill and all. You know the weather. It's practically the same. Our wind chill over night was -21. The house never had a chance to heat back up.

I also went to the PO yesterday, but I had to dig my car out and deal with a driver's door that wouldn't open. You had it easier, because I had to shovel snow off the sidewalk, etc., too. Of course, I live too far away to walk. I used to live in a town like that. Everything was within walking distance.

I was looking over a few of your posts and I love that art you got in a swap. And I have a few ornaments that look just like that. Wish our thrift store would give things away. They don't even put them away, but put them all on one set of shelves after Christmas where they sit the entire year. I'm coming to shop with YOU!!

And have a great Tea today, even though it's now Wednesday.
