Starting an Art Journal

Everywhere I look, either someone is journaling, someone is giving a tutorial on journaling or someone is talking about journaling and giving tutorials whether they realize it or not. :) So I have decided to jump on the journaling band wagon. I need to exercise my atrophied drawing muscles.

I started last Friday night when I was terribly depressed. My image was not happy, but it was very cathartic to scribble and brood. By the way, so I don't get hung up on techniques or pretty covers, my journal is a cheap composition book (cover unaltered until I am inspired) and a fine line Sharpie marker.
I was literally soaking my feet in the bath tub as I drew this page.
My slippers really are black fluffy slip-ons.
And yes, they were very comforting to slip on after a long soak.

Saturday I worked at the Post Office and found an old round dating stamp in a cabinet.
It was the inspiration for my owl page.

Sunday morning I went to church and so illustrated the musings of a "Church Lady". No one at my church wears flamboyant hats, but my "lady" does. She is all about making a statement and is not afraid of attracting stares.
So are you riding the journaling band wagon too?
(Come on! Show and tell!)

Sort of dipping my toe in, but haven't done the big splashy jump yet. I love your drawings! Sorry you were so depressed - that's clear from the darkness bearing down on your foot soaking self, rather too much for the fluffy slippers to remedy. Maybe you need a big hat like church lady, that would have to cheer any one up! Cool owl too........

I've started on a FREE journaling online course (well, I haven't got very far yet cos I've been rather busy) - you might like to have a look....

The contrast between "depressed lady" and "church lady" is remarkable. As moods can be. I've always journaled - in words, and would like to explore more drawing.

Your *flamboyant hats*, reminded me of the hats which the Inn-Keeper on 'Petticoat Junction' used to wear, when she got dressed up. Bea Bennedarit or some such was the actress' name I think, and she was a hoot.

Lots of ladies wore hats back in the time that old tv show was set in but..... Her hats were always "MORE"! Lots of flowers all over them, I think.

Thanks for the memory!

Hugs & ♥'s,
Cause Valentine's Day is coming!
